How do you read the letters on guitar tabs?

I don’t understand how to read the letters that are in the way of the frets. I’m in a band and need to find out how to read the tabs because i’m vocalist/guitar. What do the x’s meen. Anyone help.

    The X’s are called “muted” or “scratched” strings.

    In the time it took you to type and post this question, you could’ve done a search and found numerous web sites teaching you how to read tabs.

    X usually means ‘do not play.’ but do the rest of the world a favor, and give up the guitar…you don’t have the drive or ambition to find answers for yourself.

    (Can you tell I haven’t had my first cup of coffee yet?)
